Verbal Perambulation

Occasionally, I might post some different comments from class.  I’ll do so anonymously, and mostly as an additional feedback loop for us to consider how things are going.

*Today went well.  We talked about nothing specific and made it worthwhile.

*I liked how we were able to praise and critique Tuesday’s discussion.  We should be able to talk about how we can improve.  Way to go, team.

*I am the definition of spiral of silence.

*Just a dumb pet peeve, but everyone including me says “I think” when they speak.  It’s obvious that that is what we think, or we wouldn’t say it.

*I think we’re doing quite well in our discussions but it seems the readings have a very small part of class.  (DP: Yeah, that’s true so far…I think that the upcoming readings might have a little more juice for conversation.  I trying to pull some key concepts out with hitting you over the head with theory issues.  It’s a tricky balance, though.)

*I don’t like discussing discussion.  I think the majority of the class gets repetitive, even when talking about repetition!  I think our time could be better spent on more interesting topics.  (DP: Honestly, I thought about his on the way home today.  Perhaps we should reshuffle the groups and do more of the “discussion about discussion” later in the term.  I have an idea about this that I’ll float on Tuesday.)
